The Knysna Art Gallery is run by The Knysna Arts and Crafts Society. It provides a valuable platform for local artists of all categories. The art society was founded over fifty years ago. Its location changed quite a few times, until 1992, when the art society, aided by the municipality, managed to acquire space in the Old Gaol.
The art society flourished and now has over two hundred members (new members always welcome).
The annual member’s exhibition is one of the society’s most anticipated exhibitions. All members are invited to submit two artworks, this provides a great variety of mediums and styles. There is a selection process. These works will range from amateur to professional, everyone is given an opportunity. The exhibition will be opened by one of South Africa’s site-specific contemporary artists, Charles Levine.
