Gordon Legg was born in East London in 1932. After leaving there in 1949, he moved to Johannesburg where he spent 3 years at the technical college art school. He then spent 20 years in Cape Town as a commercial artists in packaging and advertizing.
Dissatisfied with the commercial world, he spent his weekends learning the technique of water colour. In 1974 he became a full-time watercolourist and has since held 64 one-man shows in most of the major centres. He has also exhibited twice in London with the South African Watercolour Society.
Gordon Legg’s paintings mostly depict wide, open spaces and this is most noticeable in his seascapes and landscapes. Recently, he has ventured into using acrylic as a medium and is enjoying the experience.
He now resides in Plettenberg Bay.
